Project Overview
Noble Power Solutions, in collaboration with RJE Global performed the testing and commissioning of the Ryan Corner Wind Farm Balance of Plant equipment, as well as the 132/20kV STATCOM Transformer and associated equipment installed at the Ryan Corner Collector Station.
The STATCOM installation and Wind Farm connection were two separate projects for RJE Global and Noble Power Solutions however by doing both projects Noble Power Solutions was able to make excellent use of resources and technical capabilities to ensure the high quality delivery of the projects without the need for interfacing with third parties.
The STATCOM part of the project was a brownfield installation within the existing Ausnet Services Ryan Corner Collector Station and presented the usual challenges that come with working within established substations, while the Wind Farm Balance of Plant was a greenfield site.
The broad scope of works across both projects included:
- 132kV AIS Switchgear Testing: Performed inspection and high voltage testing of 132kV Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) to confirm reliable performance and safety.
- 33kV GIS Switchboard Testing: Conducted inspection, high voltage (Hi-Pot) testing, and functional verification of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) to ensure fault-free operation.
- CTs and VTs Testing: Tested Current Transformers (CTs) and Voltage Transformers (VTs) for accurate measurement and protection system performance.
- Differential and REF Balance Testing: Primary injection testing to prove Differential and Restricted Earth Fault schemes, inclusive of cross boundary assets and interfacing
- End to End Testing: GPS Synchronised testing for the transmission line protection scheme between the 500kV Tarrone Terminal Station and Ryan Corner Collector Station
- Pre-Energisation Protection System Testing: Verified protection systems, including relays and circuit breakers, for safe energisation.
Being a brownfield site for the STATCOM installation and commissioning this also presented a number of defects in existing equipment which were identified and rectified during the STATCOM commissioning process.
