Project Overview

Noble Power Solutions was approached by DAME to undertake modelling and design compliance analysis of the high voltage earthing system for a data centre in development.

Following completion of the earthing system design analysis Noble Power Solutions was engaged to continue with the project to provide electrical engineering consultancy services for the High Voltage installation.

The expanded scope of works saw Noble Power Solutions perform the protection setting studies, pre-commissioning testing, certification of the High Voltage installation and initial energisation and commissioning.

In addition to the High Voltage scope of works, Noble Power Solutions has worked with DAME to develop and design the low voltage requirements for connection of the mining equipment. This nature of the equipment being installed has required a number of installation constraints to be overcome ensuring that compliance with Australian Standards such as AS3000, AS3008 and AS61439 was achieved.

With the Low Voltage design aspect of the works Noble Power Solutions has also worked with key subcontractors for the successful installation of submains cabling, final subcircuits and data cabling.

The overall scope of works performed by Noble Power Solutions extends well beyond the list below, which covers high level activities including:

  • Earthing System modelling: Undertaking site soil resistivity measurements and development of a software model reflective of the earthing system installation. Modelled results included prospective step, touch and transfer voltages, earthing system impedance, earth potential rise and voltage contours.
  • Protection relay setting calculations: Based on provided network fault level and clearance time data, Noble Power Solutions developed the protection settings for the site auto recloser, power transformers and incomer circuit breakers.
  • Electrical Engineering and Consultancy: Noble Power Solutions has provided continuous consultancy and advice services to DAME throughout the project, particularly for equipment supplied by others to the project.
  • Low Voltage Design and Installation: Design of cable trays, cable routes, loading calculations, heat rise modelling, voltage drop calculations, compliance with AS3000 and AS3008
  • Data and Communications: Collaboration with the client and installation of data centre standard communications network systems
